A Day in the Life

.
I'm not really one for New Years resolutions, but I do like to set goals for myself (like clearing the house!).

I've decided that this will be the year when I use my cameras, one way or another, every day.

Lately, it's been hard for me to find things to shoot. After moaning and groaning about the lack of subjects, I've finally decided that it's not about the scenery around me.

It's about what I see.

And then what I decide to do with it.

For instance, why do I like this shot?
Don't know, but I do.

When I keep myself aware,
I find beauty all around me.

Even at Costco!

I've decided that,
when my Canon isn't appropriate
(like in a store)
I'll just use my phone.

All but three of these pictures
were taken with my iPhone.

I find that trying to keep
my "photographer's eye" open
makes me see things I would ordinarily miss.

I'm also trying to see the same scene
in different ways.

There are so many camera apps
on the iPhone,
I'm trying to learn which ones
give me the results I want.

Then, just as I was thinking about
training myself to
"see" photographically,
I looked at the sky
and saw this.

A gift from nature.

Turning in the other direction,
I saw how huge it was.

Look how small the skyline is . . .
It was like a special effect in a film.
But real.

Then I looked up and saw the moon,
and decided to pull out the Canon sx40
for a zoomed in shot of La Luna.

And that's it for today.

More work in the house tomorrow.

Now you're getting with it, Kate! You have such a good eye, you will be able to find good pictures everywhere you are! Just look at the photos out there, and you can see that it's not the subjects that make them, but the photographer and how they see the picture and what they choose to do with it. You and Terry are both very good at conveying a great picture to us. We're happy to look at new ones every day! (Keep working on the house, and it will get done. When you're happy, you'll feel more like getting something done. Taking pictures makes you happy. How good is that? Priceless!!) Love you guys.

That's a good goal, and it surely makes you see your life through a different view finder. :)

I think that is a great idea, use the camera everyday. I am going to make that a resolution for this year:)
