An amazing actor, he never seems to hit a wrong note.
We just watched Julie and Julia, and as fine as both Meryl Streep and Amy Adams are, it's Stanley Tucci who just tickles me pink.
He's a perennial supporting actor of the kind we see too rarely these days. The kind who made the golden age of Hollywood golden.
For years, under the studio system, there was a vast army of actors who made the movies solid entertainment. They worked steadily, always giving performances that truly supported the story and the "stars", providing a foundation that made the movies magical and at the same time believable.
It seems that today, the supporting actor is a vanishing breed. The way that Hollywood currently works, so much money is involved in every film, and "stars" get such large salaries, the army of supporting actors seems to have shrunk. When an actor excels at their craft, they are often elevated to leading role status. While this may be good for their careers, I feel it isn't always in their best interest.
I say this because some actors just bring that unique flair to everything they do, adding that special joie de vivre that completes a film. It's a rare and special gift, and Stanley Tucci has it in spades.
If you'd like to see more of his work, take a look at a film called Big Night, or the Devil Wears Prada.
Stanley Tucci is a national treasure and he makes every film he appears in better for his presence.

ooh yes...you are so right!
I totally agree. You just have to love that guy. Big Night was probably my personal favorite as I like Tony Shaloub too.
